Downing is a College of the University of Cambridge which was founded in 1800 through a bequest made by Sir George Downing. It is home to a lively and diverse scholarly community, including about 420 undergraduates, 220 graduates and 53 fellows, supported by over 130 staff.

About the Chapel

Downing College is home to a diverse community of people of different faiths, and many who are not practicing members of any religion. However, because of the Anglican history of Cambridge University, the College contains a beautiful Chapel, Downing's own church. The Chapel is a focus for Christian spirituality, prayer, worship, preaching, hospitality and friendship, and it has a central place in the musical life of the College. There is an excellent Chapel Choir, which sings at at Choral Evensong on Sundays and at occasional late evening services of Compline. All are very welcome to attend any of the Chapel's services and events, or to visit it during the day to enjoy its peaceful atmosphere.
The Chapel is run by the Chaplain, the Revd Dr Keith Eyeons, who is a minister in the Church of England. He is assisted by an ecumenical team of student Chapel Wardens who come from a wide range of denominations and Christian traditions.
Regular events include the very popular Keith's Café on Thursdays from 3.30 pm on the Chapel steps, where free doughnuts, biscuits, coffee, tea, lemonade and other refreshments are served to members of the College. We also have a bible study and discussion group on Monday evenings from 6 pm in O8, daily Morning and Evening Prayer in the Chapel, and services on Sundays.
